Chapter 12
Scriptures for Sleep and Rest
Genesis 2:2-3
2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he
rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it
he had rested from all his work which God created and made. KJV
Genesis 28:11-19
11 So he came to a certain place and stayed there all night, because the
sun had set. And he took one of the stones of that place and put it at his
head, and he lay down in that place to sleep.
12 Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and
its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and
descending on it.
13 And behold, the Lord stood above it and said: “I am the Lord God of
Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie I will give
to you and your descendants.
14 Also your descendants shall be as the dust of the earth; you shall
spread abroad to the west and the east, to the north and the south; and in you
and in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed.
15 Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will
bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I
have spoken to you.”
16 Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the Lord is in this
place, and I did not know it.”
17 And he was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none
other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven!”
18 Then Jacob rose early in the morning, and took the stone that he had
put at his head, set it up as a pillar, and poured oil on top of it.
19 And he called the name of that place Bethel; but the name of that
city had been Luz previously. NKJV

Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, to observe the

still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for
his name's sake. KJV
Psalms 37:7-11
7 Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because
of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked
devices to pass.
8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to
do evil.
9 For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the Lord,
they shall inherit the earth.
10 For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt
diligently consider his place, and it shall not be.
11 But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in
the abundance of peace. KJV

the noisome pestilence.
4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou
trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow
that flieth by day;
6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the
destruction that wasteth at noonday.
7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand;
but it shall not come nigh thee.
8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the
wicked.
9 Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the Most
High, thy habitation;
10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh
thy dwelling.
11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all
thy ways.
12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot
against a stone.
13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the
dragon shalt thou trample under feet.
14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I
will set him on high, because he hath known my name.
15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in
trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.
16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation. KJV

Matthew 6:25-34
25 Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will
eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not
life more than food and the body more than clothing?
26 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor
gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more
value than they?
27 Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?
28 So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field,
how they grow: they neither toil nor spin;
29 and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not
arrayed like one of these.
30 Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and
tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of
little faith?
31 Therefore do not worry, saying, “What shall we eat?” or “What shall
we drink?” or “What shall we wear?”
32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly
Father knows that you need all these things.
33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all
these things shall be added to you.
34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about
its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. NKJV
Matthew 11:28-30
28 Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give

afraid. KJV

Hebrews 4:3-11
3 For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have
sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were
finished from the foundation of the world.
4 For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And
God did rest the seventh day from all his works.
5 And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.
6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they
to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:
7 Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, Today, after so
long a time; as it is said, Today if ye will hear his voice, harden not your
hearts.
8 For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have
spoken of another day.
9 There remains therefore a rest to the people of God.
10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his
own works, as God did from his.
11 Let us labor therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall
after the same example of unbelief. KJV
