Shiloh was “north of Bethel, on the east side of the highway that goes up from Bethel to Shechem, and south of Lebonah” (Judges 21:19). This pinpoints Khirbet Seilun, about 16 kilometers (10 miles) northeast of Bethel. At Shiloh the tabernacle received its first permanent home, soon after the initial conquest of Canaan by the children of Israel (Joshua 18:1). This established Shiloh as the main sanctuary of worship for the Israelites during the period of the judges (Judges 18:31). Here the last seven tribes received their allotments of land (Joshua 18:8-10). (Nelson's Illustrated Bible Dictionary.)

It is called “the tabernacle of the congregation,” rather “of meeting”, i.e., where God promised to meet with Israel (Exodus 29:42); the “tabernacle of the testimony” (Exodus 38:21; Numbers 1:50), which does not, however, designate the whole structure, but only the enclosure which contained the “ark of the testimony” (Exodus 25:16,22; Numbers 9:15); the “tabernacle of witness” (Numbers 17:8); the “house of the Lord” (Deuteronomy 23:18); the “temple of the Lord” (Joshua 6:24); a “sanctuary” (Exodus 25:8). (From Easton's Bible Dictionary)

Christ calls it “My Father's House” (John 2:16). (Easton's Bible Dictionary.)
