Sing, Oh Barren

Sing, Oh Barren

Mother’s Day can cause much emotional distress for women who are barren and cannot seem to conceive, or else they have had miscarriages. Some women have had abortions and deal with grief and sorrow at the loss of their child or children.

The loss of children is an unresolved kind of grieving and loss. The mourning and weeping may last for years. It may lead to utter despair. But God wants to comfort you and give you the desires of your heart. To have empty arms is one of the worst kinds of pain and internal suffering to go through. Rachel cried out to Jacob, “Give me children, lest I die!”

The grieving and weeping over the loss of children is an unresolved kind of grieving, where you refuse to be comforted. When Herod slew the children two years old and younger in Bethlehem, the Bible says that Rachel (a name for Bethlehem) was weeping for her children, because they were no more, and refusing to be comforted.

Here are some promises from God’s Word for women who are barren, or who have lost children, and would like to bear children. Adoption is also an option.

For this child (Samuel) I (Hannah) prayed, and the Lord has granted me my petition which I asked of Him. 1 Samuel 1:27

And the Lord visited Hannah, so that she conceived, and bare three sons and two daughters. And the child Samuel grew before the Lord. 1 Samuel 2:21 KJV

No one shall suffer miscarriage or be barren in your land; I will fulfill the number of your days. Exodus 23:26 NKJV

You shall be blessed above all peoples; there shall not be a male or female barren among you or among your livestock. Deuteronomy 7:14 NKJV

He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the Lord. Psalms 113:9 KJV

Now there was a certain man from Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah; and his wife was barren and had no children. And the Angel of the Lord appeared to the woman and said to her, “Indeed now, you are barren and have borne no children, but you shall conceive and bear a son (Samson).” Judges 13:2-3 NKJV

But Sarai was barren; she had no child. Genesis 11:30 KJV

And the Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh, saying, ‘Shall I surely bear a child, since I am old?’ Is anything too hard for the Lord? At the appointed time I will return to you, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.” Genesis 18:13-14 NKJV

Through faith also Sarah herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised. Hebrews 11:11 KJV

And Isaac intreated the Lord for his wife, because she was barren: and the Lord was intreated of him, and Rebekah his wife conceived [twins]. Genesis 25:21 KJV

Rachel was barren for many years, but in her older age she gave birth to two sons – Joseph and Benjamin.

Thy teeth are like a flock of sheep that are even shorn, which came up from the washing; whereof every one bear twins, and none is barren among them. Song of Solomon 4:2 KJV

Isaiah 54:1-13

1 “Sing, O barren, You who have not borne! Break forth into singing, and cry aloud, You who have not labored with child! For more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married woman,” says the Lord.

2 “Enlarge the place of your tent, and let them stretch out the curtains of your dwellings; do not spare; lengthen your cords, and strengthen your stakes.

3 For you shall expand to the right and to the left, and your descendants will inherit the nations, and make the desolate cities inhabited.

4 “Do not fear, for you will not be ashamed; neither be disgraced, for you will not be put to shame; for you will forget the shame of your youth, and will not remember the reproach of your widowhood anymore.

5 For your Maker is your husband, the Lord of hosts is His name; and your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel; He is called the God of the whole earth.

6 For the Lord has called you like a woman forsaken and grieved in spirit, like a youthful wife when you were refused, says your God.

7 For a mere moment I have forsaken you, but with great mercies I will gather you.

8 With a little wrath I hid My face from you for a moment; but with everlasting kindness I will have mercy on you, says the Lord, your Redeemer.

9 For this is like the waters of Noah to Me; for as I have sworn that the waters of Noah would no longer cover the earth, so have I sworn that I would not be angry with you, nor rebuke you.

10 For the mountains shall depart and the hills be removed, but My kindness shall not depart from you, nor shall My covenant of peace be removed, says the Lord, who has mercy on you.

11 O you afflicted one, tossed with tempest, and not comforted, behold, I will lay your stones with colorful gems, and lay your foundations with sapphires.

12 I will make your pinnacles of rubies, your gates of crystal, and all your walls of precious stones.

13 All your children shall be taught by the Lord, and great shall be the peace of your children.

NKJV

It’s the Anointing that will break off barrenness and bring fruitfulness. The Holy Spirit is able to transform your barrenness into a fruitful garden.

Until the Spirit be poured upon us from on high, and the wilderness be a fruitful field, and the fruitful field be counted for a forest. Isaiah 32:15 KJV

Isaiah 35:1-6

1 The wilderness and the solitary place shall be glad for them; and the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose.

2 It shall blossom abundantly, and rejoice even with joy and singing: the glory of Lebanon shall be given unto it, the excellency of Carmel and Sharon, they shall see the glory of the Lord, and the excellency of our God.

3 Strengthen ye the weak hands, and confirm the feeble knees.

4 Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompence; he will come and save you.

5 Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped.

6 Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert. KJV

I will open rivers in high places, and fountains in the midst of the valleys: I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water. Isaiah 41:18 KJV

Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:19 KJV

Zacharias and Elisabeth were advanced in age, and had never been able to have children. But the angel Gabriel appeared to Zacharias at the temple and announced that Elisabeth would conceive a child, and his name would be John. For decades they lived with the “curse” of barrenness (in that culture, they believed that barrenness was a curse), and the other women of the town would gossip and pick on Elisabeth for having not borne a child. Now all of their years of shame and mourning were ended, and they rejoiced in the birth of their son.

The Lord promises to restore double to us what was lost or forfeited.

For your shame ye shall have double; and for confusion they shall rejoice in their portion: therefore, in their land they shall possess the double: everlasting joy shall be unto them. Isaiah 61:7 KJV

Turn you to the stronghold, ye prisoners of hope: even today do I declare that I will render double unto thee. Zechariah 9:12 KJV

Isaiah 61:1-3

1 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;

3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified. KJV

Vs. 7 For your shame ye shall have double; and for confusion they shall rejoice in their portion: therefore, in their land they shall possess the double: everlasting joy shall be unto them. KJV

The Lord is a God of restoration. Joel 2:25-29 says,

25 And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpillar, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you.

26 And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the Lord your God, that hath dealt wondrously with you: and my people shall never be ashamed.

27 And ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the Lord your God, and none else: and my people shall never be ashamed.

28 And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:

29 And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out My Spirit. KJV

Jeremiah 30:17 promises us:

For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the Lord; because they called thee an Outcast, saying, This is Zion, whom no man seeketh after. KJV

Psalms 127:3-5

3 Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.

4 As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.

5 Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate. KJV

May the Lord dry your tears, and bring closure to the past. May the Lord grant all the petitions of your heart. May the Lord remove all sorrow, and everlasting joy be yours.

“Therefore, the redeemed of the Lord shall return, and come with singing unto Zion, and everlasting joy shall be upon their heads. They shall obtain gladness and joy, and sorrow and mourning shall flee away” (Isaiah 51:11), KJV.

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and binds up all their wounds” (Psalms 147:3), NKJV.

By this time next year, you could be holding a miracle in your arms. Just believe and receive.

Mark 11:23-26 says,

23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain (problem, obstacle), Be thou removed (uprooted), and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.

24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

25 And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.

26 But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses. KJV

If you have bitterness and unforgiveness in your heart, it can hold up your healing and miracle. Be willing to make any adjustments that the Holy Spirit speaks to you about.

May the Lord bless you, and comfort your heart. May He dry your tears, and give you closure to the past. May He grant the desires of your heart, because He promised that if you delight in Him, He will give you the desires of your heart (Psalms 37:4).

Someday you will be able to comfort and encourage someone else who is suffering with what you have been through.

Hosea 2:15-16 says,

15 I will give her her vineyards from there,

And the Valley of Achor (Trouble) as a door of hope;

She shall sing there,

As in the days of her youth,

As in the day when she came up from the land of Egypt.

16 “And it shall be, in that day,”

Says the Lord,

“That you will call Me ‘My Husband,’

And no longer call Me ‘My Master’” NKJV

In Deuteronomy 28, the Lord lists the blessings and the curses, depending on whether or not you walk in obedience and keep His commands. To fear (reverence) the Lord and obey His commands brings the blessings. To walk in disobedience or idolatry brings the curses. Then He says to choose life, so that you and your seed would live.

Fruitful fertility is mentioned among the blessings, and barrenness is mentioned among the curses.

Most of the time infertility is just a medical condition, and is not a curse.

There were barren women in the Bible who feared the Lord and lived in righteousness, but they were unable to conceive until the Lord opened their womb. But sometimes barrenness is associated with a spiritual condition.

Deuteronomy 28:1-14

1 And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the Lord thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:

2 And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God.

3 Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field.

4 Blessed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep.

5 Blessed shall be thy basket and thy store.

6 Blessed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and blessed shalt thou be when thou goest out.

7 The Lord shall cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before thy face: they shall come out against thee one way, and flee before thee seven ways.

8 The Lord shall command the blessing upon thee in thy storehouses, and in all that thou settest thine hand unto; and he shall bless thee in the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.

9 The Lord shall establish thee an holy people unto himself, as he hath sworn unto thee, if thou shalt keep the commandments of the Lord thy God, and walk in his ways.

10 And all people of the earth shall see that thou art called by the name of the Lord; and they shall be afraid of thee.

11 And the Lord shall make thee plenteous in goods, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, in the land which the Lord sware unto thy fathers to give thee.

12 The Lord shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow.

13 And the Lord shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the Lord thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them:

14 And thou shalt not go aside from any of the words which I command thee this day, to the right hand, or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them. KJV

It is God's will that no one should perish (end up in hell), but that ALL should come to repentance.

For God so loved this world that He gave His only begotton Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

God did not send His Son into this world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him would be saved.

The thief (Satan the devil) comes only for to kill, steal and destroy. But Jesus has come to give us life, and life more abundantly, until it overflows.

I urge you to come to the Cross today and receive Jesus as your Savior and Lord. He will wash away all your sins and make you as clean and white as fresh snow.

Just pray this prayer and mean it with your heart:

Dear Lord Jesus (if you are not able to call him Lord yet, then just say "Jesus")

I receive You as my Savior and Lord. I give my life over to You. I believe that You died and rose again, and that if I call on the Name of the Lord I shall be saved.

I accept you into my heart right now, and confess that You are Lord and have risen from the dead and forever live to make intercession for me.

Thank You for washing my heart pure and clean and making me whole, and for giving me peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

Thank You that now I am a new creature in Christ Jesus. The old has gone and the new has come.

And there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh (carnality and sin), but walk after the Spirit.  In Jesus' Name, Amen.

If you prayed this prayer, I believe you got born again and are now heaven bound and will be with the Lord forever and have eternal life. Your sins are now forgiven. You are accepted in the Beloved.

I would encourage you to find a good Bible based local church to help you grow in your faith, to learn the Word of God, to praise and worship Him, and to have fellowship with the saints.

Serving Christ is the best decision you will ever make.

God bless you!!!
