Unity

Unity

This message is on unity among the brethren and in families.

Unity is defined as: the state or quality of being one; oneness; the act, state or quality of forming a whole from separate parts. It’s the opposite of being divided.

Words in the Thesaurus for unity include: agreement, covenant, bond, harmony, accord, unison, union, concord, unanimity. The antonyms are disarray, division and discord.

Psalms 133 is the psalm about unity.

1 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!

2 It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron's beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments;

3 As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the Lord commanded the blessing, even life forevermore.

KJV

In Verse 1, dwelling together in unity is good and pleasant.

“Good” means respectable, moral, upright, virtuous, noble, blameless, wholesome, suitable, helpful, beneficial, sound, safe, decent, reliable, trustworthy, useful, well behaved, well mannered, polite, obedient, courteous, appropriate, high quality, first class, excellent, agreeable, lovely, delightful, mild.

“Pleasant” means enjoyable, agreeable, pleasing, lovely, nice, amiable, friendly, likable, good natured, kind. The opposite of pleasant is to be nasty, which implies either being foul or being spiteful, cruel and malicious.

The Lord wants us to put away bitterness, hatred, resentment, unforgiveness, fighting, discord, anger, rage, screaming at each other—and for some people, putting away violence.

The Lord wants us to avoid strife. James said in James 3:16 that where there is envy and strife, there is confusion and every evil work. Strife opens the door to demonic activity and gives Satan a stronghold and legal permission to wreak havoc.

Some Christians go around sowing strife. One of the main roots for their behavior is bitterness in their soul and spirit. Maybe they went through an unwanted divorce, past abuse, or some kind of tragedy, and are now bitter. Bitterness will cause a person to act out unbecomingly and to sow discord. Bitterness is a root that defiles a person (Hebrews 12:15). Only God can remove bitterness from our lives as we yield ourselves to Him and as we open ourselves up to receiving His grace.

When there is strife in churches or organizations, it often results in the church or organization folding. God cannot bless confusion and chaos.

He who sows discord among the brethren is compared to those who kill people and shed innocent blood. A person could go to hell for sowing strife and discord and tearing up churches.

Proverbs 6:16-19 says:

16 These six things the Lord hates, indeed, seven are an abomination to Him:

17 A proud look [the spirit that makes one overestimate himself and underestimate others], a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

18 A heart that manufactures wicked thoughts and plans, feet that are swift in running to evil,

19 A false witness who breathes out lies [even under oath], and he who sows discord among his brethren.

In Verse 2 of Psalms 133, unity is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron's beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments (priestly robe).

Aaron was the high priest. The precious ointment on the head was the anointing oil, speaking of the Holy Spirit. The anointing oil not only covered Aaron, but ran down his beard all the way down to the skirts of his garments (consecrating the whole body).

Aaron speaks of the office of the priest (pastor of a church or spiritual priest of the home). The skirts speak of the church body or a family below him that he is responsible for. When the priest is consecrated, then the whole body or family will be consecrated.

When there is unity, the Anointing will be present. The anointing oil was also aromatic, as it contained frankincense, myrrh and cassia. When there is unity, it will be as a sweet smelling aroma ascending to the Throne of God, and to others around you. People will be attracted to you.

Verse 3 of Psalms 133 says, “As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the Lord commanded the blessing, even life forevermore.”

Mount Hermon is a majestic mountain in Israel.  The dew on Mount Hermon speaks of the Anointing again. It’s talking about the Holy Spirit and the Glory of God resting upon you. It also implies refreshment in the Presence of the Lord and spiritual hydration.

It’s in this place of the dew of the morning (the Spirit resting on you, and soaking in His Glory) that the blessing is commanded, and there is life forevermore.

When there is unity, we open ourselves up to experiencing the abundant life that Jesus came to give us.

Let the Holy Spirit have His way in your life; yield to Him.

Stay in the Word. The Word will transform you and renew your mind (Romans 12:2). The Word is like launderer’s soap and will cleanse your mind and soul.

When a whole team is working together as one to achieve a common goal, they get more accomplished together than everyone doing their own separate thing.

In the account of the Tower of Babylon, the people were all in agreement to build a tower that would reach heaven. God said that because of their unity, nothing would be impossible for them. So He had to confuse their languages so they couldn’t communicate and be on the same page.

If we want to have the Holy Spirit’s Anointing on our lives, and to bask in His Glory, then we need to walk in unity. All kinds of blessings flow down to those who walk in agreement.

If we want to be blessed in the city and blessed in the field, and everything we touch be blessed, then we have to walk in love and unity.

Unity promotes love among the brethren and in families. Without love, we are nothing. Loving God and others is the primary thing to strive for.

At the end of our lives when we stand before God, He will ask us the question if we learned to love others. We will have to truthfully answer the question.

If there is bitterness in your heart, it’s best to deal with it right now rather than having to give an account for it on judgment day.

Psalms 133

1 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!

2 It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron's beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments;

3 As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the Lord commanded the blessing, even life forevermore. KJV

It is God's will that no one should perish (end up in hell), but that ALL should come to repentance.

For God so loved this world that He gave His only begotton Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

God did not send His Son into this world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him would be saved.

The thief (Satan the devil) comes only for to kill, steal and destroy. But Jesus has come to give us life, and life more abundantly, until it overflows.

I urge you to come to the Cross today and receive Jesus as your Savior and Lord. He will wash away all your sins and make you as clean and white as fresh snow.

Just pray this prayer and mean it with your heart:

Dear Lord Jesus (if you are not able to call him Lord yet, then just say "Jesus")

I receive You as my Savior and Lord. I give my life over to You. I believe that You died and rose again, and that if I call on the Name of the Lord I shall be saved.

I accept you into my heart right now, and confess that You are Lord and have risen from the dead and forever live to make intercession for me.

Thank You for washing my heart pure and clean and making me whole, and for giving me peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

Thank You that now I am a new creature in Christ Jesus. The old has gone and the new has come.

And there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh (carnality and sin), but walk after the Spirit.  In Jesus' Name, Amen.

If you prayed this prayer, I believe you got born again and are now heaven bound and will be with the Lord forever and have eternal life. Your sins are now forgiven. You are accepted in the Beloved.

I would encourage you to find a good Bible based local church to help you grow in your faith, to learn the Word of God, to praise and worship Him, and to have fellowship with the saints.

Serving Christ is the best decision you will ever make.

God bless you!!!
